
Transnet continues to struggle with inefficiencies. While the state owned logistics company invited private partner bids to take over rail corridors, the African Rail Industry Association says it’s not happening fast enough. Aria has also questioned the company’s commitment to transformation. Sixteen slots were auctioned off to private players but only one bidder was successful. Bringing private investment into the rail network, is a key area of structural reform touted by government as a way to boost investment and job creation.
